Premarital Mentoring

Cornerstone Premarital Mentors are married couples who facilitate conversation and training for you and your fiancé as you prepare for marriage. Mentors receive in-depth training and follow a robust curriculum.

Mentoring prior to marriage is an opportunity to develop, practice, and strengthen skills that will equip you and your spouse for long-lasting respect, friendship, and joy. Mentors will help you and your partner discuss expectations, set goals, and create plans for conflict resolution. For all of this, we use a curriculum called Prepare/Enrich.

Why PREPARE/ENRICH?

PREPARE/ENRICH first provides each partner with an easy-to-use, confidential, online assessment. Assessments can be customized based on the background and needs of each couple (previous marriages, blended families, age, and faith-based scales). Mentors will use this assessment to facilitate growth in needed areas and a personalized workbook will be provided to each couple with structure for mentor meetings and exercises to do at home.

PREPARE ENRICH includes a personality profile for each partner; a survey of relationship dynamics measured by assertiveness, self-confidence, avoidance; and 10 core scales of relationship health:

  1. Communication

  2. Conflict Resolution

  3. Partner Style and Habits

  4. Financial Management

  5. Leisure Activities

  6. Sexuality and Affection

  7. Family and Friends

  8. Relationship Roles

  9. Children and Parenting

  10. Spiritual Beliefs

How long does Premarital Mentoring last?

Before meeting with your mentor couple, each partner will take an online assessment that lasts around 20 minutes. After taking your assessment, you’ll set a schedule with your mentor couple meeting on a weekly or bi-weekly cadence. On average, couples meet with their mentors for 4-6 weeks with the last meeting occurring after the wedding.

How much does it cost?

TThe Prepare/Enrich online assessment costs $35 for the couple. The first one of you to take the assessment will be the only one charged. Once mentoring is completed, take your certification of completion (signed by the Care Pastor) when you apply for your marriage license and you will receive a $45 discount off your license.

Wedding Officiants

Cornerstone pastors are honored to officiate weddings for members and regular attendees. Please indicate if you need an officiant when you complete the form. If so, you’ll have the opportunity to indicate your top two preferences among Cornerstone officiants. We’ll do our very best to accommodate your request and schedule if we can. It’s common for officiants to receive an honorarium ($500 is standard) for meeting with the couple, planning, counseling, leading rehearsal, and officiating the ceremony.

Cornerstone Officiants:

  • Jon Odom, Rector

  • Holly Sharp, Hospitality Pastor

  • Zach Wallace, Groups Pastor

  • Alan Kline, Care Pastor

Marriage

Our primary environment to support thriving marriages is in our Apprentice Groups. We believe that building a supportive community is one of the critical building blocks to a healthy marriage! Apprentice Groups are a place to find spiritual friendship and grow in community with others seeking to follow Jesus. We encourage everyone to be a part of group life, especially as a means of marital support.

If you need further marital support, please contact the Cornerstone Care Pastor, Alan Kline
